Fina World Championships 14th FINA World Championships 2011 - Shanghai
Sunday 31st July

Fran's final swim in the World Championships was the 50m Freestyle Final in which she finished 4th with a time of 24.60secs, her best time in a textile suit. Fran says "I didn't expect a medal coming into this meet, so getting a 4th in the 50m is a big surprise because I came in ninth."

Friday 29th July

Fran narrowly missed out on a medal in the 100M Freestyle by six-hundreths of a second. Speaking just after the race she said "it hurts a little to come fourth and not swim the time you want, but it'll give me a lot of motivation for next year".

Mark Foster, speaking with Clare Balding during the BBC2 coverage of the Championships, described Fran as "one of the most talented girls I've ever seen and I think that she'll be one of the stars of the Olympics".

Fina World Championships 14th FINA World Championships 2011 - Shanghai

After a frustratingly long wait for her events to begin in Shanghai, Fran finally took to the pool today for the 100m Freestyle. Despite being reportedly nervous during the mornings heats, she soon came back to win the first Semi Final in a time of 53.48secs, a time which sends Fran to the Final tomorrow night as fastest qualifier.

Fran's remaining events are as follows:

Friday 29th - 100M Free Final
Saturday 30th - 50m Free
Sunday 31st - 4 x 100m Medley

Fran_Halsall_swimming Fran is a guest on BBC1's Question of Sport

Fran was delighted to take time out of her training and competing schedule to take part in BBC1's Question of Sport. She joined Shaun Murphy on Matt Dawson's team, competing again Phil Tufnell, Neil Morrisey and Andy Nicol.

Proving that her competitive spirit is not confined to the pool, Fran helped Matt's team take the win from Tuffers with a score of 19 to their 18.

This show aired on BBC1 on Monday 27th June 2011 at 10.35pm but unfortunately is not available via BBC IPlayer.

Fran_Halsall_swimming A successful week for Fran as she tops the 100m Freestyle World Rankings and beats her own 50m Butterfly British Record

At last week's British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield, Fran became the fastest woman this year over 100m Freestyle with a swim of 53.61secs. This puts her at the top of the World Rankings for the event.

Fran then went to the Seven Hills meet in Rome where she broke her own British Record in the 50m Butterfly, touching home in 25.86secs.
